Geographical Upsets and Merry Christmas

Christmas cards. An annual review of the year. All the things that happen and how to account for the passed time. Denver, Utah, Maine, Minnesota, Massachusetts. Sunsets and sunrises. Spring flowers and autumn leaves. New England camping and Rocky Mountain hiking. Alma mater visits and Rival university new hire.  Rock-climbing indoors and rappelling outdoors. So many visits with a best friend, and really sad goodbyes to Boston best friends. Outdoor concerts and overabundance in vegetables.

It's been a really good year. For me, I've loved and missed the friends in my life, being closer to family, finally at that final stop in my career and getting settled in. The geographical upsets from New England to the Rockies was rough, but as much as I love New England and miss it terribly, I'm getting used and comfortable with being in the west.

I've claimed that I've kept none of my goals this year. Because of all the transitions, there really wasn't much left over time for personal growth - the kind where you actually make goals in the areas you want to improve and then follow up. Instead, the kind of growth happened where you just have to survive and thrive despite new circumstances and new experiences. Although that kind of growth has been good, I'm looking forward to next year, which I feel will bring with it a bit of the more structured and thoughtful kind of growth.

I hope yours has been a happy holiday season and that you too will ring in a fantastic New Year!
