National Park Treasure Vacation
| This is real life. Maine is Vacationland.
I just got back from Acadia National Park. It was a dream. Everything about it was lovely from the hiking to the freezing ocean and the amazing lake, the canoeing and kayaking, the campfire and company. On Maine's license plates it says "vacationland" and "national treasure" and I would say that between the 10k in Freeport and now camping in Acadia, that I am convinced.
A thing about the people who came: Again, I could not have asked for a better bunch of people to spend time with for three days. The caliber of people in Boston is very high, and I feel very lucky to have found such great, interesting, thoughtful, happy and fun people here.
A thing about camping: I'm getting better at it. Not quite back to my post-freshman year of college willing to live in a platform tent for 3 months granola self, but I'm working my way somewhat back to that. My fire-making and tending skills are still really good, and my tent set-up and take-down are also pretty good. Just got to buy some chacos, or tevas, or keens and I think I'll be there...
Even though I will never sleep the first day I camp (ps. this is real, zero hours of sleep for night one, always) I still have a really good time. Even though I was not sure I would ever be warm or feel dry again after being rained on all morning long, I will still gladly camp in the rain and fog.
Our world is beautiful.
